It's been a great week of fishing in Tioga County. Bass fishing continues to be very good on Hammond, Tioga, Hamilton, and Beechwood. Anglers experienced tougher fishing on Hills Creek and Cowanesque, but still caught nice fish. The topwater bite has been very good on all of the local lakes in the evenings. On the Corps Lakes, crankbaits, beavers, jigs, and senkos are all working well. Pumpkin and watermelon have been the go-to plastics colors. Sexy Shad and similar shad patterned crankbaits are also working well. We are finding lots of bass in 8-15 feet of water. Some are shallower in the timber, but fishing deeper water has yielded good results. Check out this double from last night!
Just west of here in Potter County, Lyman Run Lake has fished very well too. Anglers are catching nice panfish using mealworms and nightcrawlers, and lots of bass on various lures. One angler noted catching over 40 fish on a whopper plopper this week! Mostly smaller bass, but fun nonetheless. Bigger fish are weighing in around 3-3.5 lbs.
Tioga spillway has been yielding nice walleyes all week. Most noted fish measuring between 15 and 20 inches, with some bigger and some smaller ones mixed in too. dragging a nightcralwer or slow rolling a swimbait on the bottom has yielded the best results.
Temps on Pine Creek are rising and trout fishing has died down. Anglers are finding fish in the mornings and evening though using terrestrial patterns, BWOs, and slate drakes. Smallmouth are being caught on a variety of spinners, streamers, and small crankbaits too.
