8/20 There's been little to update these past few weeks with daily reports being nearly carbon copies every day. Water levels in the lakes are still great. Temps are starting to drop on a few lakes. Anglers are seeing anywhere from about 68-79 depening on the time of day and the lake. Tioga and Hamilton have been the coolest, especially in the upper end creek mouths. Bass fishing continues to be good in the area, with anglers catching nice ones at Hammond, Hamilton, Cowanesque, and Beechwood. Crankbaits, jigs, jerkbaits, and topwaters are all working. Anglers are doing well on various plastics too. Senkos, Reaction innovations beavers, and Zman TRD worms have been the hot sellers. The Ned Rig has proven itself all season. Such a simple rig, but so effective. Give it a try!
A few hybrid stripers and walleyes are being caught at Hammond and Tioga. Trolling with crawler harnesses or shad colored crankbaits has worked. Very early in the morning and the last hour before dark has been best for the stripers. Some pure bred stripers are being caught at Cowanesque too. Most were incidental catches by bass fishermen using deeper diving crankbaits.
The catfish bite continues to be very good. Anglers are catching them in the Tioga River, Hammond Lake, and Tioga Lake using cut baits, chicken liver, worms, and live chubs or shiners.
Fishing should continue to improve as temperatures drop over the next three weeks or so.
Good luck fishing!
