1/3/18

Subzero temperatures at night and highs in the teens all week, has helped the lakes continue to make ice.  Most everything is in good shape this week with 6+ inches.   A flock of geese is keeping one area on Cowanesque still as of yesterday.  Keep in mind that the Corps lakes tend to freeze inconsistently and despite this great weather, there is still spots with thin or potentially dangerous ice.  The smaller lakes tend to freeze a bit more consistently, but again, areas with spring or inflowing water can be thinner and potentially dangerous.

Hills Creek and Hamilton have seen the majority of the fishing pressure these past few days and the fish are biting!  Anglers are doing best in the mornings and evening using waxwoms or maggots.  Some very nice perch were caught in both Hills Creek and Hamilton Lakes.  A few nice trout were also caught in Hamilton using waxworms and live minnows.  Tip Ups baited with live shiners or fatheads are working for bass and pickerel too.  Hot jig colors have been silver, gold, glow, and the new 'wonderbread'.  Tungsten jigs remain the favorite, but various teardrops and small spoons also worked.

A few people are on Hammond with mixed results.  A few perch and nice crappies are being caught.  waxworms have been best.

Beechwood has had some good reports.  As usual, the small perch are plentiful, but anglers are also catching some nice trout, bluegills, pickerel, and bass.

Due to the extremely cold weather WAX WORMS are in limited supply.  Our suppliers will not ship until temps come back up next week.  We hope to have a shipment Saturday, but we can't guarentee that at this time.  We do however have maggots, mealworms, mousees, oak leaf grubs, and some butterworms, plus plenty of minnows.  We are limiting wax worm purchases to 50 per person, until we can resupply
