5/25 Stable, warm weather has the bite turned on around Tioga County.  The crappies are in shore spawning on most of the lakes right now, but most of the pressure has been on Hammond, Tioga, and Cowanesque.  Anglers noted catching some that are spawned out, and some that probably need another week before they're ready to lay eggs.  This is great news for Memorial Day weekend.  Usually this bite is finished up well before the holidya weekend.  Yesterday, anglers found many fish tight to the banks and often tight-lipped too, but they caught good numbers of fish using live minnows and many different plastics.  Switching up baits was key.  Try pink, chartruese, white, or green twister tails and tubes as a change up.  Road runner style lures are working very well too.  We caught them earlier in the week on Northland Tackle's Thumper King in both chartruese and white.

Hamilton is fishing well for panfish, trout, and bass.  Powerbait continues to be a favorite there.  High heat in the day is pushing fish deeper and floating powerbait off the bottom is working best.  Small hooks were key.  Try a size 14-20 for best success.  Chartruese, Green, and Yellow were popular colors.  Various stickbaits are working well too.  Rapala Countdowns in Silver and Yo Zuri pin's minnwos were popular.  Also Phoebe's and Kastmasters.  Plain silver, gold, and nickel/blue, were working.  Bass are being caught on a variety of plastics, jigs, and spinnerbaits.  A few fish were caught using jitterbugs and buzzbaits too.

Spillway action has been good for most anglers.  Perch, bullheads, walleye, smallmouth, and hybrid stripers are all being caught at Tioga Spillway in good numbers.  Again, few legal walleye are being caught, but anglers have noted good numbres of fish.  Some muskies are being caught out o the Cowanesque spillway as well.  Water levels and temperatures are very good.  This should continue to fish well for a while.

Anglers are finding good numbers of various size smallmouth at Nelson Falls on Cowanesque.  A few 3-4+ lbers were caught on live shiners and small suckers.   On the lake itself, anglers are catching nice largemouth and smallmouth using jigs, jerkbaits, cranks, and dropshots.  A few muskies and stripers were caught on jerkbaits and spinnerbaits.

Pine Creek is fishing well for both spin fishermen and fly fishermen.  Butterworms, wax worms, and live minnows have been working well.  Light line and good presentation is key.  These fish have been pressured all season and the water is near crystal clear.  Small spinners and spoons are also working.  For current hatches and fly fishing reports click here- Pine Creek Fly Fishing Report or scroll up to our other report posts.
