Nice weather and little rain has helped the creeks come back down to normal levels.  We should be in great shape for the trout season opener this weekend!  The PFBC, and local fishing clubs, have been hard at work stocking all your favorite streams.

The perch are biting at Hills Creek Lake.  Most fish are post-spawn now, and anglers are catching them using pieces of nightcrawler and live minnows.  Some nice bluegills and pumpkinseeds are also being caught on wax worms and crawlers.  Bass fishing has been slow yet, but water temps are climbing into the mid 50's and soon they will turn on too.

Crappie fishing on Hammond remains slow.  The water is clearing up, but it is still cold.  Within the next 2 weeks, we should see the bite pick up considerably.  Late April is a great time to pick up pre-spawn crappies.  Look for drop offs near spawning areas and you will find them.  Anglers are catching a few now, but it has been very slow. Live minnows have worked best so far.  Perch were also being caught in low numbers.

Cowanesque Lake too is still cold and muddy.  As it warms and clears, fishing will improve.

Spillway action is starting to pick up.  Anglers caught nice smallmouth and pickerel using live shiners.  Rock bass and perch were also biting on live minnows.  In the evenings, a few catfish and bullheads are being caught on crawlers, live minnows, and chicken livers.  Again, warming weather will help the bite tremendously over hte next few weeks.

Good luck fishing.  We are open 7 days a week for all your fishing needs.  Stop in and see us!
