October has started off with near perfect fall weather and hungry fish. Anglers are catching nice bass, crappies, and perch on most of the local lakes.
Water temperatures on the lakes have dropped to the mid 60's. Anglers are finding fish in a variety of places. Offshore smallmouth fishing has been good with anglers catching them on dropshots, crankbaits, and various finesse presentations. Largemouth are scattered with some in super shallow and others holding out deep. Tioga/Hammond have been best for largemouth. Cowanesque continues to fish hard, but anglers are finding some on brush piles and weed lines.
Stripers have been active! Anglers are catching a few hybrids on Tioga Lake in the morning. On Cowanesque, early morning until the fog burns off, they are catching the pure breds too. Before dark some are being caught as well. Spoons, crankbaits, and jerkbaits are all working. Drifting/trolling with shiners has yielded some too.
Trout fishing on Pine is improving again. Water temps have dropped into the low 60's and good hatches of caddis have been coming off. We still need more rain badly. Pine is VERY low.
Hamilton Lake is due to be restocked on October 10th. Water levels have dropped considerably here too. Hopefully some rain is on the way!
