Warm weather moved into the region for much of this past week.  Today started out with rain, that's since changed over to snow and ice.  Ice conditions on the lakes have degraded.  Yes, people were out fishing all week, however the ice is beat up in many areas.  We need some steady cold weather to tighten things up.  If you decide to go out, make sure you have your safety gear and constantly check conditions.  Keep away from areas with inflowing water and watch for old holes that opened up.  With water rushing off the lakes, some of those 8" holes are now 12"+.  With a few colder nights, they could ice over again.  If they don't freeze solid, these spots will be potentially dangerous.  The boat launch area at Hamilton Lake is thawed out, and edges are deteriorating.  Those fishing were on Beechwood and Hills Creek mostly.

In better news, the walleye fishing is heating up at the spillways.  With higher flows too, anglers have been catching some nice ones using both live shiners and nightcrawlers.  Perch are biting too on nightcrawlers and fatheads.

Good luck and be safe out there.
