2/8/19 Tioga County Ice Conditions update-
Hills Creek looks to be the only lake in good condition as we head into the weekend. We talked to a few people that had been on Beechwood, but the edges are gone along much of the shoreline. We did not attempt to get on the lake. This could be in better shape by Sunday with the cold weather moving in now. The lake is high and there was some open water at the boat launch. Hamilton is also unfishable for the time being. Again, the lake is high and the edges are gone.
Hills Creek though, was in good shape. The ice is varied and we measured anywhere from about 6-8.5 inches. The edges at both the Pines launch and the stumps end were slightly slushy still, however, we got on and off the lake without getting wet. This will harden up tonight and should be good and solid by the morning. A few people were fishing on the stumps end, and near the swimming area. Reports these past few days have mentioned a great crappie and bluegill bite in the stumps. Green, Black, and Chartruese colored soft plastics have been working very well. Wax worms are also working well.
Good luck and be safe out there this weekend. Be sure to check conditions yourself before venturing onto any of the lakes.
