More rain is on the way this weekend, just as water levels were returning to optimal conditions. Keep an eye on the USGS gauges or feel free to call for more info. If we don't get much rain today, Pine, and all of the surrounding streams will fish well this weekend. The bite has been very good these last few days. Redworms, butterworms, and waxworms are all working well. Pink shrimp and white salmon eggs have also been popular. Anglers are catching lots of trout at Hamilton Lake, including a few really nice ones. Chartruese, Yellow, and Corn Yellow powerbaits are all working, as well as a variety of live baits. Kastmaster spoons and Joe's Flies spinners continue to be favorites too.
Pine Creek is being restocked today by the PFBC. Hamilton Lake, Asaph Run, and Long Run are scheduled to be restocked on 4/29. Stocking info is always available on the PFBC website here- http://fbweb.pa.gov/stocking/troutstockingdetails_gis.aspx .
Hammond, Tioga, and Cowanesque were all shut down earlier in the week due to heavy rains. The launches and recreation areas are all open again, however, the lakes are still muddy. Water temperatures have jumped to the low to mid 50's. Cold rain and snow showers this weekend will likely drop these temperatures again. Crappie fishing will be tougher this weekend, but things should start picking up as we enter May. The smaller lakes are fishing better and Hills Creek and Beechwood are both pretty clear. Crappies and perch are being at Hills on fatheads, waxworms, and a variety of small jigs. Afternoons and evenings have been best.
Good luck out there. Feel free to call us anytime during business hours for current conditions at 570-724-5138
