It's going to be a fish-filled weekend in Tioga County. The Crappies are biting on most of the local lakes. Hammond fished well yesterday with anglers catching a mix of white and black crappie. Fish are also being caught at both Tioga and Cowanesque. With warmer weather all weekend, we can expect to see a continued good bite. Afternoons/Evenings have been best with fish moving in shallow just before dark. Live minnows have been the most popular bait, but anglers are catching them on a variety of jigs too. Gulp! and powerbait minnows continue to work well.
Trout fishing improved this week with water levels dropping to more managable conditions. This weekend is the Upper Pine Creek Trout Tournamenet. Expect extra pressure on most of Upper Pine. The water is still up some, but clarity is good. A variety of baits have been working. Baby nightcrawlers, butterworms, and wax worms were all favorites. Kastmaster spoons are also working well.
Bass fishing is heating up too. Anglers are catching them on whopper ploppers, chatterbaits, and a variety of plastics. Wacky rigged senkos and Strike King Ochos are working well.
Good luck out there!
