The bass are biting well across the county. If you enoy stream fishing, Crooked Creek, Tioga River, Cowanesque River, and Pine Creek are all great smallmouth fisheries and anglers are catching them on a variety of lures, flies, and live shiners. Try a Ned Rig with a TRD craw, Rebel crayfish, or Rapala X-rap. All are smallmouth killers! Fly wise, clouser minnows, foam or deer hair poppers, crayfish patterns, and even wooly buggers will work.
Weeds are growing on most of the lakes. Hills Creek and Nessmuk both are weedy and the frog fishing has been excellent! Picking apart open pockets and weedlines with wacky rigged senkos is also effective. In the open water, whopper ploppers and poppers are working on top too.
Cowanesque is clearing and fishing well. The weeds are not growing as strong here and anglers are finding more fish offshore holding on cribs and rockpiles. Fallen trees and some of the shallow timer is also holding fish. Deep diving crankbaits, like a Strike King 5 or 6XD, drop shots, and carolina rig are all working offshore. In shallower, anglers are catching fish on spinnerbaits, jigs, and a variety of texas rigged soft plastics. Black/blue, Okechobee Craw, and various shades of watermelon/green pumpkin have been working.
Hammond and Tioga are both clearing as well. Anglers are catching a variety of fish. Crappies have mostly moved out deeper and you will find them suspended on offshore structure. Berkley flicker shads have worked well in purple, greens, and shad colors. Live minnows and crappie magnets are also working. Look for fish in 10-20 fow. The weed beds are coming in nice and many bass are holding up shallow still. Pitching a variety of texas rigged plastics in and around the weeds has been yielding fish. Offshore, the the crankbait bite has been good around the man-made structures. Look for cribs and tire piles in 12-15 fow.
