Yesterday, and again some today, heavy rains moved through the county dumping 2+ inches of rain. Currently, all three of the Army Corps Lakes are shut down. Pine is very high and unfishable as well. Creeks in the area are all high. Smaller streams, like Asaph Run, will be fishable this wekeend, but expect to deal with high water. Nighcrawlers, redworms, and baby nightcrawlers are all good go-to baits in high water conditions. Hamilton Lake is up and muddy as well.
We have been getting lots of questions about the crappie bite. It was starting to improve some, but water temps have been very low these past few weeks. Temperatures should creep into the mid 50's this week and the smaller lakes and farm ponds should fish well. Anglers today were catching bluegills, perch, and crappie at Hills Creek using live minnows and wax worms. Unlike the other lakes, Hills tends to stay in good shape even despite the heavy rain. This bite will only get better as water temperatures rise into the 60's.
Good luck and be safe out there. We will update again early next week.
