As we head into the holiday weekend fishing is excellent across the county.  The crappie bite continues to be good on most of the lakes, but the spawn is winding down.  They are being caught from shore, however the best fishing has been from boaters.  Boaters are seeing a mi of fish trolling offshore and casting the banks.  Hammond, Tioga, and Cowanesque are all producing nice fish.  Nice eaters are being caught on Hills Creek, Beechwood, and Hamilton too.  Live minnows continue to be a favorite as well as crappie magnets, trout magnets, slider grubs, beetle spins, and small swimbaits.  Chartruese, Firetiger, black, brown, and white were all popular colors this week.  There is good surface activity in the evenings with flies hatching.  Try a small popper, dry fly, or emerger to pick up both crappies and sunfish.  If you want to troll, berkley flicker shads have been the favorite all season.  Chartreuse, Firetiger, purple, and shad patterns are all producing.

Hamilton has been fishing well for trout.  Powerbait continues to be the bait of choice for many anglers.  Corn Yellow, Salmon Peach, Chartreuse, and Rainbow were all hot sellers this week.  Reports have been similar on Lyman Run and Beechwood.  Live minnows and mealworms are also working.

Bass fishing has been good across all of the lakes.  The topwater bite is picking up with whopper ploppers and jitterbugs yielding lots of nice fish.  There is a mix of pre and post spawn fish.  The shallow bite has been very good.  target shorelines with squarebill cranks, jerkbaits, texas rigged plastics, or jigs.  Water Clarity is good on most of the lakes and natural colors have been best.

Pine Creek is fishing well, though some rain is expected today.  Green Drakes, sulphurs, March Browns, yellow sallies, and more have been hatching.  Evening are fishing best.  A dry dropper rig has been effective. Nymphing throughout the day is producing lots of fish too.  Live bait is working well.  Live minnows and butterworms have been the prefferred baits.

Good luck fishing.  Tackle Shack is open 7 days a week for all of your fishing needs.
