10/29/21 Tioga County Fishing Report | Wellsboro Tackle Shack

Call Us

Little to update this week.  Tioga Lake is currently closed from high water earlier this week. Keep an eye on the USACE Facebook page for updates on that reopening.  You can find that here- https://www.facebook.com/thclakes

EDIT (10/30 2:30PM) The below highlighted text was just posted on the USACE Facebook page.  Rain is expected through tomorrow.  It will likely be at least a few days till these areas reopen

"High Water Event:

Park rangers have been closely monitoring conditions of recreation areas associated with Tioga-Hammond and Cowanesque Lake projects.
The following areas have been closed due to the high water event:
Lambs Creek
Railroad Grade Trail
South Shore Rec Area
Old Day Use Boat Launches
Camper Boat Launches
Park Rangers will continue to monitor conditions."

The other corps lakes are dirty, but anglers are catching some bass and crappies.  Brighter colored baits have been best.  Nelson falls at Cowanesque has been fishing well for smallmouth too.  Fishing in the spillways has been tougher lately.  Some walleyes and smallmouth were caught this week.  Water levels are up and dirty.  Again, brighter colors or louder baits have been best.  Rattle traps, chartreuse grubs and swimbaits were all working in the rivers.

Pine is up too.  It is clearing, however more rain is expected this week.

Hamilton Lake and Lyman Run Lakes are both fishing well for trout.  Some panfish are bass are also being caught.  Hamilton is still dirty and areas near the dock have been best.  Many trout moved up into the incoming creek and anglers are catching them upstream of the lake too.

Salmon and steelhead fishing in NY and Erie have been good for many of our customers. We did well on Egg sucking leeches and purple wooly buggers earlier this week.  We have plenty of rods, reels, egg sacks, egg imitations, and flies in stock.  Stop in before making a trip and we're glad to help you get set up.  Waders, including neoprene bootfoots, are also in stock.
