4/22/2022 Trout fishing great. Crappies and bass biting too | Wellsboro Tackle Shack

Call Us

Trout fishing has been excellent lately across the county and most of the lakes/streams have been restocked or will be very soon.  Pine Creek, Crooked Creek, Marsh Creek, and Stony Fork have all been popular destinations.  Snow early in the week and some light rain has water levels up at good spring flows and most are running pretty clear.  Joe's Flies, Rooster Tails, and Phoebes were all working well this week.  Wax worms, red worms, and salmon eggs continue to be popular too.

Crappies are starting to be caught in better numbers at Hammond and Hills Creek.  Warmer days this weekend should help start really turning the bite on.  It is likely another 10 days to 2 weeks before we are really into the best bite.  If continues continue to warm, we can expect the peak of the crappie bite to land around the first and second weeks of May.  Live minnows have been most popular for bait.

Bass are being caught on most of the lakes.  Jerkbaits, squarebills, and swimbaits have been best.
