7/26/2022
We are back with a new look and hopefully a more user friendly experience. We are still working out some kinks. Please feel free to give us a call during business hours with any questions (570-724-5138).
It's been a HOT dry couple weeks here in Tioga County. The lakes and streams are low and temps are holding in the high 70s to 80s. The 11th annual Tackle Shack 3 Day 3 Lake Bass Tournament hosted by Tioga County Bass Anglers wrapped up on Sunday, 7/24 at Cowanesque. In total, over 500 lbs of bass came to the scales with the biggest weights and most fish coming from Hammond. The overall lunker was over 6.5 lbs, to anchor a 22lb bag. Tioga was tough all around, but the biggest Tioga bag we have ever weighed tipped the scales at almost 16.5 lbs. Anglers saw tough conditions again on Sunday at Cowanesque with the top bag also being around 16.5 lbs. A variety of baits and techniques have been effective. Flipping shallow timber and weeds with Strike King Rodents, Rage Craws, and various jigs has been effective. Green Pumpkin, Blue Craw, and similar colors are working. Weeds are very sparse on Tioga and Cowanesque. Hammond has decent patches in the no wake zone and a few other places. In areas absent of weeds, look for lay downs, man made structures and hard bottom for best results. Spinnerbaits and buzzbaits in white, shad, and shiner patterns are working too.
Nessmuk and HIlls Creek are both seeing a good topwater frog bite, particulary late in the day. Weeds are thick on both.
Pine Creek remains at low levels and trout fishing is done till the water levels and temperatures improve. Smallmouth are plentiful and fun to catch though. Try a small ned rig presentation, or smaller profiled flies and poppers. You can find similar good smallmouth action on both Tioga and Cowanesque Rivers below the dams. Some walleyes are also mixed in now too. Small swimbaits and twister tails are working well. Try perch patterns, white, or green pumpkin colors in 3-4" models.
