6/7/16-  It's been a great week of fishing for many across the county.  Frog fishing at Hills Creek lake has been on fire!  Boaters and Kayakers are catching lots of nice bass using a variety of frog pattnerns in the slop and emerging grass.  Weeds are getting thick already, making Hills perfect for topwater frog fishing.  Anglers are catching some panfish too in the pockets in the weed beds, as well as in the deeper water by the dam.

Good numbers of walleye, bullhead, and a few channel cats are being caught at the Tioga spillway.  Most noted a great bite all week, but most of the fish are smaller.  Cats are just starting to get active and reports have improved greatly since last week.  Walleyes have ranged from 6-15 inches mostly, with a few 18-20 inchers caught too.  Cats up to 22 inches or so.  Action has been best in the evening and late into the night.  Smallmouth and crappie are being caught througout the day too using small swimbaits, twister tails, shiners, and small hair jigs.

Trollers are picking up walleye in Hammond.  dragging crawler harnesses over the dropoffs has yielded a bunch of walleyes up to 24 inches.  Large perch and hybrid stripers are also being caught like this.  Crappie fishermen are finding both perch and crappie holding in 8-14 feet of water.  trolling small stickbaits and grubs has worked well.  So has jigging structure and brush piles.

Bass are about mid-spawn everywhere.  Anglers are finding fish on beds and post spawn fish too.  Bass opens June 18th.

Pine Creek is fishing well.  Live minnows and butterworms were the most popular baits this week.  Fly fishing continues to be good as well.  Rain and cooler temperatures should have cool water temperatures to more favorable conditions over the next few days too.

Good luck fishing
