4/21/2023 Crappies starting to bite. Trout fishing in full swing. Pine Creek Fishing Well. Tioga County Fishing Report
4/21/2023
Fishing around the county has been good and will continue to improve over the coming weeks. Early in the week we saw a good crappie bite on all of the lakes with warm weather moving through the region. Water temps have risen to the mid 50's. Mid week, cold weather slowed the bite, but things are starting to pick back up again and we expect a good weekend of fishing on all of the lakes. Afternoons seem to be fishing better as the water warms up throughout the day. A variety of jigs are working, as well as live minnows and wax worms. We really like the Eurotackle products like the EPF swim and B-Vibe for crappies. Give them a try!
Trout fishing continues to be good with anglers having success on most of the local stocked waters. Salmon eggs, butter worms, and wax worms have been the most popular live baits on the streams. In the lakes, powerbait and live minnows are working best. Many different spinners and spoons are also working. Joe's flies spinners have been particularly popular. The onset of a number of hatches has trout feeding well on flies. Caddis, some stoneflies, Hendricksons, March Browns, and Blue Winged olives are all hatching and patterns mimicking them are working well. Subsurface, hendrickson and march brown nymphs plus mop flies, squirmie worms, wooly buggers, and similar standard patterns are catching fish. Water levels are dropping and we need rain soon! Streams are all running low for this time of the year.
The bass bite has been very good. A lot of fish are moved up shallow and jerkbaits, chatterbaits, swimjigs, squarebills, and topwater baits are all catching fish. The Evergreen Showerblows SB77.7, Whopper Ploppers, Rapala X Raps, Megabass Vision 110 Jrs, and similar baits are producing fish. On the smaller lakes, bluegill/perch patterns are producing better. Shad/shiner patterns have been best on the Corps lakes. Red craw patterns are also working well on all of the lakes.
Spring is prime time for fishing most everywhere. Get out there and enjoy it! Good luck fishing
