8/6/2023 Bass bite continues. Crappies, catfish, and more being caught. Tioga County Fishing Report
Summer fishing in in full swing! Anglers are targetting bass, crappies, bluegills, and catfish with good success on most of the lakes.
Cooler nights and foggy morning have made for ideal condtions for topwater action. Whopper ploppers, buzzbaits and frogs are working well for bass across the county. During the day a mixture of baits are working including wacky or texas rigged senkos and MaxScent generals, creature baits, and ned rigs. Weed beds are fully grown and bass can be found hiding among them, as well as on timber and offshore structure. Mornings and evenings have been fishing best. Overall, water clarity is very good and temperatures are holding in the low to mid 70s in the mornings, rising to mid to high 70's (surface temps) later in the day.
Crappies are being caught in good numbers on Tioga and Hammond using live minnows and a number of small jigs. Eurotackle B-vibes continue to be a favorite. Chartruese, white, green pumpkin, and black are all working. Offshore structure and fallen trees are good places to target them. Some are being caught trolling too with small crankbaits, like the Berkley flicker shad.
Bluegills are being caught on all of the lakes. Small jigs, flies, or worms are all working. Hammond in particular is producing some very nice ones.
Catfish are being caught in Hammond, Tioga, and Tioga River, and Cowanesque river. A mix of live and prepared baits are working. Chicken livers continue to be a favorite.
Good luck fishing
